Welcome to the Buckhorn Run Farm Web Site!

Welcome to our web site. We are Barbara and Jack Knapp, owners/operators of Buckhorn Run Farm, located in central Maryland.  We are a small, family-run farm using sustainable farming and livestock management practices.  We raise Nigerian Dwarf Dairy Goats, with about 40 goats in our herd.  We also raise meat rabbits and have a few layer chickens.

​What's New on the Farm

August 5, 2022

This morning we took 7 senior does to the Howard County Fair Open Senior Doe Show.  Latte placed first in a class of 7 Milkers Under 4, and was chosen as Champion Nigerian Dwarf.  Molly placed first and Millie placed third in a class of 5 Milkers Under 3.  Nova placed second in a class of 5 Milkers Under 2 years old.

This evening we took 6 junior does to the Howard County Fair Open Junior Doe Show.  Paula placed first in her class of 12 Junior Kids.   And Patty placed first in her class of 5 Intermediate Kids.  Our other juniors placed in the middle of their classes.

We took 6 does to the Maryland Dairy Goat Association 3-Ring Doe Show at the Howard County Fairgrounds.  Nutmeg was chosen as Junior Reserve Champion.  Our other does placed near the top, which is good considering this was their first show.

    Libby placed 3rd, 3rd, and 3rd out of 14 in the 3 year old Milkers class
    Marmalade placed 2nd, 5th, and 1st out of 12 in the 2 year old Milkers class 
    Millie placed placed 4th, 3rd, and 5th out of 11 in the 1 year old Milkers class
    Nola placed 6th, 6th, and 10th out of 31 in the Dry Milkers class
    Nutmeg placed 7th, over 10, and 2nd out of 31 in the Dry Milkers class and Jr. Reserve Champion

Between the thunderstorms this afternoon, we checked on Nancy and we found two cute little babies "on the ground".  Parcheesi (3.3 lb) is a brown & white doeling (brown front and white rear) with a few brown spots and blue eyes.  Pinochle (3.1 lb) is a broken cou clair buckling with a big blaze and frosted ears.  This is Nancy's first freshening.  Mickey Blu is the sire.

The Maryland Dairy Goat Association held their 3-Ring Buck Show today at the Howard County Fairgrounds.  We took 2 of our senior bucks to the show.   1-year old Noah placed in the middle of the pack in his three showings against 12 other bucks.  2-year old Mason was chosen as the Senior Reserve Champion in one ring.

While feeding everyone this evening, we found Nova standing in the field with two wet kids on the ground.  Patches is a brown doeling with a star and white patches on both sides (3.0 lb).  And Pixar is a tri-colored, spotted buckling (2.6 lb).  Nemo is the sire.  This was Nova's first freshening!

Late tonight Luna delivered identical twin doelings; both are solid red in color with no markings.  Pamela has brown eyes and Paula has blue eyes.  Nemo is the sire of these precious twin doelings.​​

Latte delivered triplets tonight - two doelings and a big buckling.  Lil Mtn Golden Garbanzo is the sire.  The first kid, Petunia is a white & red doeling (3.1 lb).  The second kid, Palooka (new name) is a white & red buckling (5.0 lb).  And the third kid, Primrose is a red doeling with a star (3.7 lb).​​​

Two days before her due date, first freshner Molly delivered two lovely doelings today just before noon.  Pebbles (2.9 lb) is strawberry red.  Parfait (2.7 lb) is a red and white pinto with blue eyes.  Mickey Blu is the sire.​​

We had the opportunity to meet and share goat care tips with Leigh and Nikki, zookeepers at the National Zoo.   These are the ladies who take care of Buckhorn Run sisters Fedora and Fiesta, as well as a third goat, Marla, at the Kid’s Farm Exhibit at the zoo.   Click here to read Nikki's blog about the goat's training. ​​

First freshner Fusion kidded three flashy kids this morning:  Piccolo, a cou clair buckling (3.5 lb) with a small star and tail tip.  Pico, a tiny black & white buckling (2.0 lb) with brown ears and stockings.  And, sadly, a stillborn doeling.  Nemo is the sire of these colorful, blue-eyed boys.

Early this morning, first freshner Matilda delivered a set of tiny twins; a buckling and a doeling.  Peter Pan (2.5 lb) is a buckskin buckling with a star, partial belt on his hip, and white on 3 legs.  Pixie (only 2.0 lb) is a buckskin doeling with a star, frosted ears, and white socks on her front feet.  These are the last kids for Nittany this year.

First freshner Millie delivered a buckling and a doeling tonight.  Nittany is the sire.  The buckling, Paco (4.8 lb) is a buckskin with a blaze, partial belt, and white tail tip.  The doeling, Pippin (3.7 lb) is a buckskin with a star and several small white spots on her side.

Just before dinner today, Fawn delivered triplets; a doeling and 2 bucklings.  Padro is a red buckling with an elongated star (3.5 lb).  Pablo is a buckskin buckling with a large star and wide partial belt and frosted ears (3.9 lb).  And Petra is a broken buckskin doeling with a partial belt (3.5 lb).  Nittany is the sire of these lively kids.

Henna delivered two big girls this evening.  Patina (4.2 lb) is red with a star and white tail tip.  Priscilla (4.9 lb) is a dark buckskin with white spots on her right hind leg and tail.  Both have blue eyes.  These are Nittany's girls.

Late tonight Duet presented us with quadruplets; 2 doelings and 2 bucklings.  Mickey​ is the sire.  Playboy (3.4 lb) is a buckskin buckling with a blaze and belt over his hips.  Party Girl (3.0 lb) is a tri-colored buckskin doeling with a star, frosted muzzle and ears and a spot on her hips.  Peaches (3.4 lb) is a gold and white pinto doeling with a star.  And Pixel (3.4 lb) is a blue-eyed buckskin buckling with extensive white.

This afternoon Loni delivered triplets; a buckling and 2 doelings.  Phineas (4.5 lb) is a solid red buckling.  Pita (3.6 lb) is a solid red doeling with a small star.  Pella (3.8 lb) is also a solid red doeling with a white patch on her head and another patch on her belly.  Sunny Daze Mellow Yellow is the sire.

Mid afternoon Marmalade delivered twin bucklings.  Percy (4.5 lb) is black with a star, partial belt, and white spots on all four feet.  Poe (4.3 lb) is a dark buckskin with a few white hairs on his poll.  Nittany is the sire of these handsome boys.

Libby delivered a set of colorful triplets early this afternoon; 2 doelings and a buckling.  CH Bloomfield Acres RS George is the sire.  Paige (3.7 lb) is solid tan color.  Patty (4.0 lb) is red color with dark moonspots.  And Phantom (4.2 lb), the buckling, is a dark buckskin with a white tail tip.

Our 2-year old, first freshner Manzanita delivered a cute pair of doelings at dinnertime.  Paris (4.4 lb) is a dark buckskin with a star and white patches, a white tail and blue eyes.  Portia (4.2 lb) is a belted dark buckskin with a star, one white rear leg and a white tail tip.  Nittany Lion is the sire of these very cute girls.  We will be keeping one of these girls.

We took 7-year old Autumn for a little trip to the vet this morning.  Dr. Sarah Link was able to untangle and pull two flashy doelings.  Perri (3.5 lb) is black with a partial belt and white star.  Phoebe (4.0 lb) is a buckskin with a white star and a white hind leg.  Mickey Blu is the sire.

First time parents Monica and Nittany have two beautiful little doelings.  Pumpkin (2.6 lb) is a solid red color.  Petal (also 2.6 lb) is a dark buckskin with a white poll and blue eyes.

First freshner Margo delivered perky twin bucklings today around noon.   Their sire is Mason.  Peyton ( 4.0 lb) is tan colored with a white tail tip.  Parker (3.5 lb) is a dark tan color with blue eyes and a few moonsports, and he's polled.

This afternoon Macie Mae delivered two good-looking bucklings.    Peter, the first buckling, is a white pinto with red/brown markings (3.5 lb).  Paul, the second buckling is a red/brown pinto with white markings and a dark dorsal stripe (3.3 lb).  These are the first kids for Macie and also the first kids for the father, Noah.

Honey kidded twins late this afternoon; a girl and a boy.  Mickey Blu is the sire of these kids, so of course they both have blue eyes.  Penelope (3.4 lb) is a red doeling with a small white spot on her right side.  Poindexter (4.0 lb) is a red buckling with a white spot on his left side.

Lisa delivered three kids tonight - two buckllings and a doeling.  Both handsome bucklings are solid red; just like their father Mason.  Paxton (3.8 lb) is a darker red color with dark moonspots.  Patton (3.1 lb) is a lighter red color.  Sadly, the little doeling was stillborn.

This evening, our 11-year old Grand Champion, Bailey, gave birth to a single doeling.  This flashy, cream colored cou clair kid with blue eyes is the first kid of Nemo.. We named her Pandora.  Her birth weight was 4.4 lb.

After monitoring Juno yesterday and last night, we had Dr. Robert Simmons help with Juno's delivery this morning.  Three does!  The first two are big and healthy, but the third was stillborn.  The first doeling, Paprika, is a solid red color, just like Juno (4.9 lb).  The second doeling, Poppy, is a solid dark brown color (4.3 lb).  Mason is the sire
